Topspin Serve

A standing or low jump serve where you roll over the ball and create a predictable drop. It is not as random as a float, but at high revs the ball gets on passers faster than it looks, especially to the deep corners. Most high school players learn it after the float because the toss is friendlier than a full jump-serve approach but you still get pace.

Example

Snap over the top, ball dives at the back line, the platform is up but the ball is under it on the second hop.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a topspin serve in volleyball?

Forward spin, high-to-low flight, usually a firm toss and a clean wrist. It is the middle gear between a float and a full jump serve for a lot of club players.
