Transition
The shift from defense to offense within a rally—after your team digs the ball, players move from their defensive positions to set up an attack. Transition offense is less organized than serve receive because players are scrambling from wherever they defended. Teams that score efficiently in transition have a major advantage in close sets.
Example
Dig, blur to target, 31 out of the cloud, the block is late, you cash the point in transition.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is transition in volleyball?
It is any attack after a non-serve first touch, usually a dig. You are not in a perfect 3 pass; you are making ball speed out of trouble.
How do you improve transition offense?
Wash drills with live block, dig, and immediate set. The setter’s first three steps off the dig matter more than their hands some nights.
