Tool
Using the block as a second attacker on purpose, usually off the outside hand, so the ball goes wide past the antenna for your point. It is a core volleyball skill when a double is square and the court is not there; you are not trying to “beat” the block, you are trying to borrow it. Stat sheets still read kill for you, not for the block.
Example
Big double, you swing out, ball rides the outside hand, down wide, R1 to your bench.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does it mean to tool the block in volleyball?
It means to score with the help of the block’s outside hand, usually long and wide. The crowd calls it a tool, a wipe, a roof gift, the stat is still a kill for you.
How do you tool the block effectively?
Aim the edge, swing across, not through the middle. Center mass usually stays in, outside edge goes to beer league heaven.
