Wipe

A swipe that rides the block’s outside hand, same family as a tool, more verb than stat line. The hitter tries to add side spin that carries long for the point when the line is gummed. If you are calling the play, “wipe the block” is the cue; if you are scoring it, the box just says attack kill off block.

Example

Hand on the right pin, you wipe across, ball lands in row three on their side, point, move on.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a wipe and a tool?

Same result, different slang. A wipe is the motion off the hand; a tool is the idea of using the block at all. The scorekeeper still just sees your kill.
